Luna the Therapy Dog

Meet Luna

Luna is an 8 year old standard poodle. She is certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Luna's favorite things are to play fetch and tug of war. She is a very sweet girl who enjoys all the attention and love. Luna loves to run and play, but sometimes she get sleepy and needs to sit in her chair and nap.

Luna will be at Carlton Landing Academy on Monday's, Wednesdays and Thursdays. She does not like rain or cold weather. If it is raining or very cold she will stay home under her blanket and sleep.

What does a therapy dog do? 

Dogs can help children by:

• Bringing joy and laughter, even if for a short time

• Taking a child's mind off personal problems, aches, pains and worries

• Providing soft comforting fur to be petted and stroked

• Acting as an icebreaker in getting children to share their emotions and stories

• Creating an opportunity for children to develop/enhance socialization skills

• offering an opportunity for children to develop a relationship in which they are simply seen as a friend and not as a child with a disability

• Providing non-judgmental support and motivation

• Lowering stress levels, thereby optimizing learning capacity
